I know Rebirth has mods that fix the issue and pretty sure X3 does as well. Both X3 & X Rebirth have a sandbox economy with micromanagement gameplay but unlike X4 both have fake economies for the AI which allow them to spawn in ships/station for free.But anyway, the X3 subreddit exists, where you can get help if needed (not sure if the mods would allow non-X4 question on this subreddit for long).įirst off i would say both X3 and X Rebirth are worth playing but overall for what you are looking for X3 is probably the better fit for you especially considering your system spec as X3 might even better on your setup then it would for modern cpus as X3 is single threaded only. And you might need a good bit of time to learn things. But it's still a different experience than X4 is. Also, actual ingame description of ships, stations, wares and all of that exist. So, if you want a little bit of the command you want to start, you can press 'i' (the letter) and get some information about it. It takes a while to get used to it, but once you got it, it's really quick and less tedious.Īlso, the game has an outright better encyclopedia and tooltips. It isn't impossible, just that I personally would be really annoyed if I had to do that all the time. So the clicking and mouse moving is simply slow. So you have menus inside of menus inside of menus (insert yo dawg meme). You don't have RTS style controls for example in the map (XR didn't have that either if I remember right). It's just that the HUD of the old games is simply from the last century (literally). It isn't as bad as you might think it is.

You're faster with the keyboard, and will be less annoyed. The menus aren't really designed for mouse navigation. X4 is improved in many good ways (but also a few bad things).Īnd just a personal tip from me: DO NOT USE THE MOUSE INSIDE ANY MENUS! Really, the old X games are very keyboard heavy. If you plan to stay vanilla, don't expect it to be a modern game.
It's gameplay loop is very similar to X4, and with the right mods, it is outright superior to it in many many ways. I don't want to go into too much detail with X-Rebirth. Regardless, I absolutely enjoyed the gameplay despite playing at less than 20fps for about 90+hrs or so.
